How To Set Up Your PS3 For Static Ip.

This is a very basic tutorial for setting your Playstation 3 up with a static IP. Your be amazed the affect this can have on your ability to connect to people and have a better game experience.

Start up the Playstation 3 and navigate to Settings/Network Settings on the XMB (Cross Media Bar). Select Internet Connection and make sure it is Enabled. Go back to Settings/Network Settings on the XMB. Select Internet Connection Settings, select Yes when a confirmation screen is displayed stating that you will be disconnected from the Internet. Select Wired Connection or Wireless. Adjust each item as necessary for the particular network environment in use. The items displayed will vary depending on the settings you select. Select Custom. For Ethernet Operation Mode select Auto-Detect. For IP Address Setting select Manual. 9. In this section you will enter the IP Address for your Playstation 3 (static IP Address), the subnet mask, default router, and primary and secondary DNS servers.

For the PS3 IP address, use the first three groups numbers of your router’s IP address and change the fourth group to 50. For example, if your router had an IP Address of 192.168.1.1, make your Playstation 3 IP address 192.168.1.50.

If your Router’s IP address was 192.168.0.1, make your PS3 IP address 192.168.0.50. The subnet mask is: 255.255.255.0. Make the Default Router your Router’s IP Address. So, either 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 typically. For the DNS Settings select Manual. For the Primary and Secondary DNS Servers use:

MTU – Leave set to Automatic. Proxy Server select Do Not Use. UPnP make sure and set it to Enable (this is a very important setting).

Don’t forget that you will need to know your routers IP address. If you mess up at all its very easy to revert back to the original settings. Go back to the first step, rather than selecting “custom” select “easy”. This will do all the settings for you and put everything back the way it should be.

If you are able to access your router you could always try putting your Playstation 3 into DMZ (demilitarized zone). This basically means that your Playstation 3 will be fully opened up on every port and will allow every single incoming/outgoing connection. This may sound dangerous as far as getting virus’s goes. Don’t worry your PS3 is unhackable. Not even the brainiest hackers have managed to get into the Playstation 3 and mess with it.

Just go into your routers settings and locate the part for using DMZ, you will need the MAC code that your PS3 is using and point the DMZ at this so it only opens your Playstation 3 to everything.
